Progress Reports

Progress Reports give you a summary of how a Student or Tutor has developed over a period of time. They are generated automatically by Bobbin based on completed Lessons.

Types of Progress Reports

Bobbin generates three types of Progress Reports automatically:

  • Recent Progress — generated after each Lesson, based on the last few Lessons the Student or Tutor was involved in

  • Weekly — a summary of the past week's activity

  • Monthly — a summary of the past month's activity

You can also generate a Custom Progress Report for any date range you choose. Students and Clients can't do this themselves, so if a parent asks for an end-of-term report, you or an Administrator will need to create it for them.

Viewing a Student's Progress Reports

To view a Student's Progress Reports:

  1. Open the Student's profile (accessible from any Lesson or Course they are part of)

  2. Click the Summary tab

You'll see the same range of report types — recent, weekly, monthly, and custom — reflecting the Student's progress across their Lessons.

Each report lists the Lessons and Courses it was generated from, so you can see exactly what it's based on.

Generating a custom Progress Report

On the Summary tab of a profile, click Generate Custom Report and select the date range you want to cover. Bobbin will create a report based on all completed Lessons within that period.

Next steps

A Progress Report can include a Next steps section setting out what the Student should work on next, gathered from the next steps on their recent Lessons. Where it's in use, those same next steps are fed into the plan for the Student's following Lesson, so you're not starting from scratch each time.

Clients see this section on their Student's report, so it's worth a read before it goes out.

Note: Attendance is taken into account when a report is written, so a Student marked absent for a Lesson won't be described as having taken part in it.

Reports written about you

Bobbin also generates Progress Reports about Tutors. You can ask for one to be generated about yourself, but only an Administrator can change or remove it.

Adding your own notes

You can add your own written notes to a Student's Progress Report, shown alongside the report itself. It's a good place for context Bobbin wouldn't know about - a run of missed Lessons, something a parent has mentioned, or how the Student handled a recent assessment.

Important: These notes are part of the report the parent reads - they aren't a private comment for your agency. Write them for that audience. Clients see the note text but not your name.

Once a report has been approved and sent, its notes are locked, so anything you want to add needs writing beforehand. Saving notes also replaces whatever was there before, and the previous version can't be recovered.

Downloading a report as a PDF

A Progress Report can be downloaded as a PDF, with the option to bundle the Student's Lesson Reports from the same period into the same file. The export also tells you how many of the covered Lessons had a Lesson Report available to include, and notes any shortfall in the PDF. Where a report covers a lot of Lessons, the most recent ones are bundled.

You'll only ever get the Lesson Reports for Lessons you teach, so a bundled export from your account may hold fewer than an Administrator's would.

Note: If your organization has report approval turned on for Progress Reports, a new report waits for an Administrator to approve it before Students and parents can see it - you and your Administrators can see it the whole time. Administrators can also email an approved report to a Student's Clients as a PDF.
