Tutors and Administrators can bring a second device, such as an iPad, into a Lesson they're already teaching. It's handy as a writing tablet or as a second camera. The second device follows the Lesson: it sees and hears everything, but it can't run the Lesson, and it doesn't count as an extra person in attendance or reports.
Adding a device with a QR code
Join the Lesson on your main device first, such as your laptop.
Open the Lesson tools panel in the bottom-left corner of the classroom. If it's minimized, click Lesson tools to open it.
Under Other devices, click Add a device. A QR code appears.
Scan the code with your second device within two minutes. It joins the Lesson as you, without needing to sign in.
Note: Keep the code private. Whoever scans it first joins the Lesson as you, so don't show it on a shared or projected screen.
What to expect
Your main device stays in charge. Start, switch and end the Lesson from your main device. A second device can't be added to a Lesson you aren't in on your main device.
It moves with you. When you start, switch or end a Lesson, the second device rejoins by itself once your main device is back in the classroom.
One extra device at a time. Adding another device stops the previous one following you after the next restart.
Mute one microphone. If both devices have their microphone on, you may be transcribed twice.
Your leave time is taken from whichever of your devices leaves last.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say the code has expired or was already used?
Each code lasts two minutes and only works once. Showing a new code also cancels the previous one. Click Add a device in the Lesson tools again to get a fresh code.
Why did my tablet drop out of the Lesson?
If the tablet’s page was reloaded, or it dropped out a few minutes after joining, it can’t rejoin by itself. Click Add a device again and scan the new code.
Why can’t I add a device?
Your main device needs to be in the Lesson first. Join the Lesson on your laptop or computer, then add your second device.
