Bobbin Lite quick start for tutors

Learn how to join lessons, move your resources, and find recordings in Bobbin Lite.

Written by Raashi Thakran

Your organization now runs its online lessons through Bobbin instead of Lessonspace. The whiteboard is the same one you already know, so your lessons will feel just as they did before. This article covers what you need to get started.

Signing in

Sign in to Bobbin with your TutorCruncher login details. There's no separate Bobbin account or second password. You can also move between TutorCruncher and Bobbin from your Jobs and lessons.

Joining a lesson

Open the lesson in Bobbin and click Join Space in the top-right corner to enter the whiteboard. You can open the space early to set up your resources.

In the classroom, you start the lesson yourself and let your students in from your Waiting to join list. See Running your Lesson in the classroom for how this works, including handing the room over to the next tutor.

Your join link is unique to you and won't sign a student in, so please don't share it. Each student has their own link, which you can find on the lesson's main page in Bobbin. A student's link works for every lesson on their course, so they can keep using the same one each week.

You can also bring a second device, such as an iPad to write on, into a lesson you're teaching: click Add a device in the classroom and scan the QR code. See Using a second device in a Lesson.

What's different from Lessonspace

The whiteboard works the same way, with a few small differences:

  • The "Invite others" button is hidden.

  • There's an extra tab with your resources library inside the space.

  • If a lesson is being recorded, a notice appears on the screen before you join.

Your resources

Inside the lesson space, the library panel gives you your organization's shared files, the course's files, and your own personal library.

Your personal resources from Lessonspace don't move across automatically. To bring them over:

  1. Log in to your Lessonspace account, go to the resource library, and select Personal.

  2. Click Download All. Your resources are exported as a zip file. Downloads are capped at 250 MB, so if your library is larger, download it in smaller batches.

  3. In Bobbin, go to Resources in the left-hand menu and select Upload files.

We recommend doing this before your first lesson in Bobbin.

Your past whiteboards

Whiteboards from your past Lessonspace lessons aren't moved to Bobbin. You can still find them in your Lessonspace account while your organization keeps it open.

Lesson recordings

If your organization records lessons and allows tutors to view them, you can watch recordings from the lesson in Bobbin. If you can't see a recording, check with your administrator. A student may also have been opted out of recording, in which case the lesson says so.

If you see an "Authentication failed, link expired or not valid" error when playing a recording, refresh the lesson page and try again. Recording links expire after a few hours for security.

Courses with AI switched on

Your administrator can switch AI on for chosen courses. On those courses, your online lessons also get a transcript, lesson insights, lesson plans and progress reports, the same as full Bobbin. If you're not sure whether a course has AI on, ask your administrator.

Scheduling

Your lessons are still scheduled in TutorCruncher. If a lesson needs to be rescheduled or canceled, follow your usual process in TutorCruncher.
