Your Students

Find out how to view the Students on your Courses and Lessons.

Written by Raashi Thakran

In Bobbin, Students are the people receiving Lessons. As a Tutor, you can view the Students on your Courses and Lessons to understand their history and progress.

Note: Tutors only see Students on the Courses and Lessons they are assigned to. Administrators can see all Students in the organization.

Viewing a Student's profile

A Student's profile shows:

  • Their basic details

  • All Lessons they are linked to (that you are also part of)

  • Linked courses - the Courses they're on, with how far through each Course's plan they are

  • Lesson recording - whether the Student can be recorded and whether their recordings can be shared with them and their family. You can see these choices, but only the Student's Client or an Administrator can change them.

  • Learning profile - if your agency uses learning profiles, notes on how the Student learns best, such as what helps, what to avoid and their goals. You can read it, but only an Administrator can change it.

Navigate to a Student by clicking their name from within a Lesson or Course page.

On the Summary tab of a Student's profile, you can view their Progress Reports - AI-generated summaries of how the Student has been progressing over recent Lessons, this week, and this month.

These reports are useful for identifying patterns in a Student's strengths and areas for improvement across multiple sessions. You can also generate a custom Progress Report for your Students - Students and Clients can't do this themselves, so if a parent asks for one covering a term, it's you or an Administrator who creates it.

Where a report includes Next steps, those are worth a look before your next session with that Student - they're fed into the Lesson plan for it. If the Student is on more than one Course, the next steps are grouped by Course, and each Lesson plan only uses the next steps for its own Course.

If you teach the same Student for more than one agency, they appear once in your Students list. The recording choices shown on their profile are the ones for the agency you've currently switched to. See Working with more than one agency.

Students without an email address

Some Students, particularly younger ones, are set up without an email address. They can still join Lessons and have Reports written about them exactly as normal - they just can't sign in themselves and won't receive emails from Bobbin.

As a Tutor, you don't manage Clients directly. When you complete a Lesson Report it goes to the relevant Client's email address - with two things that can change the timing:

  • If your organization reviews Reports before sending, it goes once an Administrator has approved it rather than straight away.

  • A Client can have Report emails turned off for a particular Student. The Report is still there for them to read when they sign in; it just isn't emailed to them.

So if a parent says a Report never arrived, it's usually one of those two rather than anything missing from your write-up.
