Tutors are the users who deliver the teaching in Bobbin. Each Tutor runs Lessons, is linked to one or more Courses, and has Progress Reports generated about their teaching as those Lessons complete. In an organization that runs Bobbin on its own, an Administrator adds and manages Tutors directly in Bobbin.
Note: Coming from TutorCruncher?
If your organization is connected to TutorCruncher, your Tutors are managed in TutorCruncher and synced into Bobbin. Follow the Bobbin Guide for Administrators instead.
The Tutors page
Open Tutors from the Directory section of the sidebar to see everyone teaching in your organization. The list shows each Tutor's name, email address and the number of Lessons they have completed, and you can use the search box to find a Tutor quickly. Internal Bobbin accounts don't appear here, so the list is only your own people.
Click any Tutor to open their page, which has a Summary tab (their recent Progress Reports, linked Courses, contact details and Lesson activity) and a Lessons tab (every Lesson assigned to them, filterable by All, Upcoming or Past).
Adding a tutor
Go to Tutors and click Add tutor.
Enter the Tutor's First name, Last name and Email. A last name and email are required.
Choose the Tutor's Timezone if it differs from the default.
Click Add tutor to create them.
Unlike a Student or Client, a Tutor has no paying Client attached — they're simply the person delivering the teaching.
Note: When you add a Tutor, Bobbin emails them a welcome link to set a password and sign in. If it doesn't arrive, an Administrator can resend it.
If you're setting up your organization or taking on several Tutors at once, you can import them from a CSV spreadsheet instead of adding them one at a time. See Clients & Students (for non TC users) for how the import works.
Editing or removing a tutor
Open a Tutor's page and use Edit to update their name, email or timezone, or Remove to take them out of your organization. Removing a Tutor keeps their past Lessons and Reports intact, so the rest of your records stay complete.
Removal takes effect straight away, with the tidying up of their associated data finishing in the background. If a Tutor also works with another agency on Bobbin, removing them only removes them from your organization.
What a Tutor can do on a Course
A Tutor's access is set per Course, and controls what they can do with that Course and its Lessons. There are four levels — Full access, Add & edit, Edit only and Complete only.
Because the level applies per Course, the same Tutor can have different access on different Courses. If a Tutor tells you an action is missing on one Course but works on another, that's usually why.
Each Tutor also has a Default course permission, set on their profile, which is the level they're given when they're newly added to a Course without a level chosen. To set it, open the Tutor and use the Default course permission panel to pick a level and click Save default. Changing it doesn't affect Courses they're already on. See Courses (for non TC users) for the full breakdown of what each level allows and how to set permissions on a Course.
Tutor sign-in and the mobile app
Tutors sign in with their email address and password — the one they set from their welcome email. Tutors are also the only users who can use the Bobbin mobile app, which is built around the day-to-day job of running Lessons and writing up notes.
Whichever way they sign in, a Tutor only sees what's relevant to them — their own Lessons, Courses and Students — rather than your whole organization. On a Lesson page they can see the join links for their own Students, so they can pass one on to a family who can't find their invitation.
The mobile app can also send Tutors a daily push notification summarizing the Lessons they have that day. It's switched off until it's enabled for your organization.
Two-factor authentication
Any Tutor can turn on two-factor authentication for their own account from their profile settings, adding a code from an authenticator app on top of their password. It's worth encouraging, since Tutors sign in with a password rather than through TutorCruncher.
You can see whether a Tutor has it switched on from their page, and if one loses access to their authenticator app an Administrator can reset it so they can set it up again.
Files and resources
Tutors can use your organization's shared files and folders as well as building a personal library of their own, and can attach shared files to the Courses they teach. Inside a live Lesson, the library panel gives them the shared files, the Course's files and their own library without leaving the whiteboard.
Every document and folder records who added it, so you can see what came from which Tutor.
Tutor performance feedback
Bobbin generates AI performance feedback about each Tutor's teaching. By default, Tutors don't see the AI feedback about their own teaching — it's visible to Administrators only. If you'd like your Tutors to see it, an Administrator can turn on Show tutor performance feedback to tutors under Workspace > Settings > Lessons.
Progress Reports about a Tutor work the same way: a Tutor can ask for one to be generated about themselves, but only an Administrator can edit, refine or remove it, or write the notes on it.
